Sales of PTWs in the EU increase by 3.5% during the first six months of 2014

A total of  675,630 powered two wheelers (PTWs) were sold during the first six months of 2014 in the EU. This represents an increase of 3.5% compared with the 652,553 units sold between January and June 2013. Between January and June sales in the motorcycle grew by 8.8%, whilst moped registrations fell by 8.5%.

A total of 675,630 powered two-wheelers (PTWs) were sold during the first six months of 2014 in the EU. This represents an increase of 3.5% compared to the 652,553 units sold between January and June 2013. Most European markets for PTWs performed positively. Sales increased in Spain (+16.9%), UK (+11.2%), Germany (+3.7%), France (+1.7%) and Italy (+1.1%).

Between January and June 2014, the motorcycle segment grew by 8.8% compared to the same period in the previous year. A total of 493,378 motorcycles were sold against 454,343 for the first six months of 2013.

Moped sales continue to decrease, as in the past months. Between January and June 2014, a total of 182,104 mopeds were registered in the EU, whilst 199,053 had been registered in the same period of 2013.
