Sales of powered two-wheelers in the EU go up by 7.4% during the first four months of 2014

A total of 382,890 powered two wheelers (PTWs) were sold during the first four months of 2014 in the EU. This represents an increase of 7.4% compared with the 356,530 units sold between January and April 2013. Between January and April sales in the motorcycle grew by 13.2%, whilst moped registrations fell by 5.7%.

A total of 382,890 powered two wheelers (PTWs) were sold during the first four months of 2014 in the EU. This represents an increase of 7.4% compared with the 356,530 units sold between January and April 2013. All the largest European markets for PTWs continued to perform well. Sales increased in Spain (+18.7%), UK (+14.1%), Italy (+7.71%), Germany (+6.8%) and France (+4.4%).

Between January and April 2014 the motorcycle segment grew by 13.2% compared to the same period in the previous year. A total of 279,530 motorcycles were sold against 246,940 for the first four months of 2013. Similarly to the previous months mopeds registrations continued to decrease. Between January and April 2014 a total of 103, 280 mopeds were registered in the EU, whilst 109,496 had been registered in the same period of 2013. This represents a decrease of 5.7%.
