Sales of PTWs increase by 2.6% during the first five months of 2014

A total of 511,190 powered two wheelers (PTWs) were sold during the first five months of 2014 in the EU. This represents an increase of 2.6% compared with the 498,340 units sold between January and May 2013. Between January and May sales in the motorcycle grew by 8.1%, whilst moped registrations fell by 9.8%.

A total of 511,190 powered two-wheelers (PTWs) were sold during the first five months of 2014 in the EU. This represents an increase of 2.6% compared to the 498,340 units sold between January and May 2013. Most European markets for PTWs performed positively. Sales increased in Spain (+17.5%), UK (+12.5%), Germany (+3.4%), France (+2.4%) and Italy (+1.5%).

Between January and May 2014, the motorcycle segment grew by 8.1% compared to the same period in the previous year. A total of 371,900 motorcycles were sold against 343,965 for the first five months of 2013.

Moped sales continue to decrease, as in the past months. Between January and May 2014, a total of 139,180 mopeds were registered in the EU, whilst 154,250 had been registered in the same period of 2013.
