New motorcycle registrations in five of the largest European markets (i.e. France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK) reached 610.757 units during the first half of 2024. This represents an increase of approximately 1,7% compared to the same period in 2023 (600.810 units).
Motorcycle registration volumes in Italy (204.189 units, +6,1% year-on-year) and in Spain (104.055 units, +1,4%) showed an upward trend. Volumes were down slightly in Germany (126.803 units, -2.2%) and in France (114.645 units, -1,4%) and they remained broadly stable in UK (59.383 units, -0,6%).
Moped registrations reached a total volume of 84.666 units in the six European moped markets monitored by ACEM (i.e. Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain). This registration volume represents a reduction of 15% in comparison to last year (99.772 units). The reduction is widespread in the monitored countries.

Commenting on the current situation of the sector, Antonio Perlot, ACEM Secretary General, said:
“Data for the first semester 2024 confirm long term trends, with growth for motorcycles (+22% vs 2019, 610.757 vs 500.252) and a reduction in moped volumes (-29% vs 2019, 118.958 vs 84.666), partly due to a transfer to light motorcycles. Overall, registrations reflect European citizens’ continuously growing interest in powered two-wheeled mobility, for urban, periurban and leisure usages”.
