Milan (Italy) | 12 June 2024

During the 2024 General Assembly, members of the European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM) have re-elected Michele Colaninno (CEO Piaggio Group) as President for a 2-year mandate as from the 1st of July 2024.

Mr Colaninno received overwhelming support from manufacturers and national associations confirming a successful guidance under his first mandate. Holding a degree in Business & Economics, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Piaggio Group in 2023 being also the founder and Chair of the US robotics company Piaggio Fast Forward. Mr Colaninno is Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of the Immsi Group, which controls the Piaggio Group and holds investments in a number of important Italian industrial groups.

The leadership of ACEM is completed with the appointment of three Vice-Presidents:

  • Markus Flasch, Head of BMW Motorrad
  • Vito Cicchetti, Business Transformation Planning lead of Honda Motor Europe Ltd

The Presidium will steer the voice of the motorcycle industry coinciding with the start of the new political mandate at the European Parliament and, towards the end of the year, with the newly appointed European Commission.

QUOTES

Michele Colaninno, President of the European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers, commented:

“As reelected President of ACEM, I would like to express my gratitude to colleagues for their support”.

“Market and society are changing rapidly, and mobility is evolving. This is a challenge for the industry, but also an opportunity that we do not want to miss: sustainability, connectivity, safety, and competitiveness are our top priorities”.

“Geopolitics will make 2024 crucial in terms of political and business stability: elections in Europe, US and India are marking the route for the next decades. Transport and mobility must stay at the core as facilitators to achieve prosperity and quality of life. Scooters and motorcycles offer different solutions to face the new needs from society in urban and rural areas. From the motorcycle sector, we are ready to talk with the European, national and local institutions in the interest of customers and citizens”.

Antonio Perlot, ACEM Secretary General, said:

“The new ACEM leadership will bring a positive continuation for the whole L-category vehicle sector, supporting a steady development of our organisation from both human and professional sides as outlined by the industry strategy ACEM Vision 2030+”.

“Within the current transition between two political mandates at European level, through the recently issued Motorcycling Manifesto we wish to reassure decision-makers on our commitment to work together, with them, within the industry and with the entire motorcycle sector, towards a more efficient mobility and transport sector benefiting the sector and wider society”.
