Overview
Between 3 and 6 April 2017, the European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM) and the International Motorcycle Manufacturers’ Association (IMMA) will host their second joint Spring Congress.
As part of this Congress, on 6 April 2017 ACEM and IMMA will organise the first International Motorcycle Industry Conference, which will bring together industry executives from all over the world and a selected number of external speakers to discuss future challenges and opportunities for the motorcycle sector.
This industry-only event will offer a unique opportunity to meet with senior motorcycle industry executives from America, Asia and Europe to discuss key issues for the sector such as innovative approaches to sustainable mobility, recent developments in industry legislation and road safety policies at international level.
Venue
Both the IMMA-ACEM Spring Congress and the Conference ‘The Ride to the Future’ will take place at the Westin Grand Berlin Hotel.

Conference speakers
Stephan Schaller
Stephan Schaller is a mechanical engineer with 30 years of experience in the automotive sector. Since 2012 he serves as President of BMW Motorrad, a business division of the BMW Group. In 2014, he was appointed President of the European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM), and in 2016 was elected President of the International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (IMMA).
Mr Schaller has held a large number of management positions in different companies including CEO of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Member of Management Board at Volkswagen AG, and Executive vice-president and board member of Schott AG. He was also Member of the Supervisory Board at Voith GmbH, TÜV NORD AG and MAN SE, as well as Board member and General Manager of Engineering at Linde AG.
Mr Schaller began his professional career in the BMW Group in 1981 in the Technology division, and holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the RWTH Institute of Technology.

Jean Todt
Jean Todt is the current United Nations Special Envoy for Road Safety. In this capacity, he works with key stakeholders including governments, financial institutions and the private and non-governmental sectors to promote road safety policies across the world. Mr Todt is also President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), the governing body for world motor sport and the federation of the world’s motoring organisations, as well as President of eSafety Aware and a Member of the Board of Trustees of the FIA Foundation for the Automobile and Society.
Before joining the FIA, Mr Todt worked for Ferrrari, first as responsible for all motor sport activity for the Ferrari-Maserati Group, then as Chief Executive Officer of the company. He began his career in 1966 as a co-driver in world championship rallies before joining Peugeot as Sporting Director in 1981.
He studied economics, business and marketing at the Ecole des Cadres in Paris.

Johannes Loman
An Indonesian citizen, Mr. Loman is the current Executive Vice President Director of PT Astra Honda Motor. He also serves as President of both the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) and the Federation of the Asian Motorcycle Industry (FAMI).
Moroever, Mr. Loman is Commissioner of PT Musashi Auto Parts Indonesia, PT Showa Indonesia Manufacturing since 2009 and PT Federal International Finance since 2007, as well as President Commissioner of PT Suryaraya Rubberindo Industries, Vice President Commissioner PT Astra Otopart Tbk, Executive Vice President Director in PT Astra Honda Motor and Director in PT Astra International Tbk. He joined Astra in 1984 and previously held the position of CEO Honda Sales Operation, CEO Daihatsu Sales Operation, Marketing Director of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor and PT Astra Honda Motor.
He holds a BSc in economics and a MA in business administration from the Catholic University of Parahyangan in Bandung, Indonesia.

Prof Fred Wegman
Dr Fred Wegman is the current chairman of the OECD Traffic safety data and analysis group (IRTAD). This body brings together road safety experts from national road administrations, road safety research institutes, international organisations, insurance companies, car manufacturers and others. He has also advised a large number of public organisations including the WHO, the OECD, the Dutch Parliament and the Dutch Ministry of Transport.
Before joining the OECD-IRTAD, Dr Wegman worked at Delf University of Technology, Civil Engineering and Geosciences, where he was a full-time professor. Dr Wegman also worked first as a researcher and later as Managing director of the Dutch Institute for Road Safety Research (SOWV). He started his career at the municipality of Amsterdam, as a traffic engineer.
He holds a MSc from Delft University of Technology.

Antonio Erario
Dr Antonio Erario is the current chairman of the UNECE World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations and of the UNECE Group of Experts on General Safety. He also serves as Head of the division for international regulatory affairs of the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and is a permanent member of the European Committee on intelligent transport systems (ITS).
Prior to this, Mr Erario worked as an international transport expert at the UNECE, as a seconded national expert at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Enterprise and at SOTECNI Roma as responsible for transport planning.
He holds a MSc in civil engineering and transportation from Sapienza University (Rome).

Edwin Bastiaensen
Edwin Bastiaensen is a Dutch national and graduated in Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.
He has been active in the transport and mobility sector since 1998. He has a broad experience with development, deployment and maintenance of traffic and transport policies, regulations and technologies.
In 2011 he was appointed as Secretary General of the International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (IMMA), based in Geneva, Switzerland.
IMMA is the trusted global voice of motorcycle manufacturers. IMMA promotes mobility through safe, sustainable motorcycling by advocating the development and harmonisation of technical regulations affecting the motorcycle industry and by advancing inclusive policies for motorcycling. IMMA federates the industries from United States, Europe, Asia, India, Japan, Australia and Canada.
Previous to IMMA, Edwin worked as Senior Manager Engineering and Strategic Research with TomTom, the world leader in navigation. He was responsible for patents creation and licensing, research partnerships and EU-affairs for digital map R&D in Tele Atlas.
Prior to this he was an independent management consultant with assignments in ERTICO – ITS Europe, in ACEM – The Motorcycle Industry in Europe and as independent expert for the European Commission. He started his career in the Ministry of Transport in the Netherlands.
He is married, has two sons and lives in the Geneva area.

Dr Margie Peden
Dr Peden is the Coordinator of the unintentional injury prevention team within the Department for management of noncommunicable diseases, disability, violence and injury prevention of the World Health Organization (WHO). In this capacity, she coordinates work in the areas of unintentional injury prevention, road safety, injury surveillance and surveys, and alcohol and drug-related injuries. Prior to this, Dr Peden was the executive editor of both the World report on road traffic injury prevention, and the World report on child injury prevention.
Before joining the WHO, she was a senior scientist at the Medical Research Council in Cape Town where she was involved with the development of an injury surveillance system for the country. She has extensive experience in road safety, and child and alcohol-related injuries.
Dr Peden holds a BSc in nursing from Cape Town University, a BSc in epidemiology from the University of Stellenbosch and a PhD in epidemiology from Cape Town University.

Hannes Jaenicke
Hannes Jaenicke studied acting at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar in Vienna from 1979 to 1982, and shortly after started a career in the TV and movie industries. He is very well known for his work in many TV series and films, such as the German crime series “Tatort”, the American movie “Lost Treasure” or the American TV show “Highlander: The Raven”.
Mr Jaenicke is also known for championing wildlife conservation across the world. In collaboration with the German TV channel ZDF, he produced documentaries about many endangered animal species and in 2010 was selected as Shark Guardian of the Year 2010 by the Sharkproject. He is also a member of the platform “Ethics in Business”, which supports medium-sized companies that are committed to responsible action to protect the environment.
Furthermore, Mr Jaenicke is active as a screenwriter and speaker and has published several books including “Die große Volksverarsche” (1st place on the Spiegel bestseller list in 2013) and “Wut allein reicht nicht. Wie wir die Erde vor uns schützen können”. He is also well-known for his passion for motorcycles.

Wim van de Camp
Mr Wim van de Camp has been a member of the European Parliament since 2009. He is currently a member of the European Parliament Committees on transport and on international trade. Mr van de Camp has been the parliamentary rapporteur on the Commission’s proposal for a regulation on the approval and market surveillance of two- or three-wheel vehicles and quadricycles, as well as on a parliamentary report on the Commission’s White Paper on Transport.
Between 1986 and 2009, before joining the European Parliament, Mr van de Camp served as a member of the Dutch House of Representatives. Prior to that he was a member and then President of the national CDA Party administration.
He holds a degree in engineering from Deventer University and a law degree from Nijmegen University. He is also a well-known enthusiastic motorcyclist.

Vito Ippolito
Mr Vito Ippolito currently serves as President of the Federation of International Motorcycling (FIM), the international organization that governs motorcycle racing. He was first elected in 2006 succeeding Italian Francesco Zerbi, and was re-elected in 2010 and 2014. A Venezuelan national, he is the first non-European president of the organisation since its creation in 1904.
Mr Ippolito also served as FIM Deputy President since 1997, FIM Vice-President between 1990 and 1996, and as member of the FIM Road Racing Commission from 1984 until 1990. Between 1992 and 2006 Mr Ippolito was President of the Venezuelan Motorcycling Federation, as well as President of the Latin American Motorcycling Union (1984- 1998). He was also the manager of the team Venemotos whose rider Carlos Lavado became 250 Grand Prix World Champion in two occasions 1983 and 1986.
Mr Ippolito holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy from the Central University of Venezuela, and speaks Spanish, Italian, English and French.

Stefano Ammirati
Stefano Ammirati is the Director of advocacy and membership of the International Automobile Federation (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, FIA), the world’s governing body for motor sport and mobility.
In his current role, he supervises the FIA’s global policy strategy, advocating for more than 80 million members from national clubs throughout the world on three priority areas: road safety, connectivity and sustainable mobility.
Prior to joining the FIA, Stefano spent 13 years of his career with the World Economic Forum, in charge of developing and managing the strategic agenda for the Transportation and Logistics sector as well as for the Automotive sector.
He holds a Master in International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International Relations in Geneva.

Angel Lopez
Ángel López Rodríguez currently serves as Director of Barcelona’s electric vehicle programme and Executive director of the LIVE platform, a public-private partnership that aims at promoting sustainable urban mobility in Barcelona. Prior to this, Mr López Rodríguez served as Director for Mobility and Infrastructure at Barcelona’s City Council.
In the past Mr Ángel López Rodríguez worked in major projects for the city councils of Madrid and Barcelona, the Catalonian regional government, the Spanish Directorate-General of Traffic (DGT) and the Spanish Ministry of Public Works, and had management responsibilities in private high-tech companies.
His areas of expertise include traffic management, road safety and public transport systems. He holds a MSc and a PhD in civil engineering from Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

Antonio Perlot
An Italian-Swedish national, Antonio Perlot is Secretary general of the European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM) since 2014. Prior to this he served as ACEM Public Affairs Manager since 2006, advising the industry on public and regulatory affairs. Between 2001 and 2006, he worked for the Federation of European Motorcyclists’ Associations (FEMA), first as a Campaign officer, then as Secretary general.
Before joining FEMA, Mr Perlot worked as an EU public affairs consultant representing clients from different industry sectors and, before then, in the NGO sector.
Mr. Perlot holds a BSc in Political Science (specialisation in European integration) from La Sapienza University as well as a MA in Diplomatic Studies from the Società Italiana per l’Organizzazione Internazionale (SIOI).
